Lynwood J. Counseller

Lynwood was born April 6, 1936 in Lansing and went to heaven March 20, 2012.

He was a retired teacher and administrator for the Lansing School District. He was president of McLaren Health Care Volunteer Services and also served on their Foundation Board. For many years he worked with the Lansing Civic Players Guild, was a member of the Old Newsboys, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he was an usher and in the golf league. Lyn was a dedicated servant, but the true love of his life was his family. Whether it was attending a sporting event, a school program or having fun at the lake, being with his family was his priority. He was a loving and dedicated husband whose contributions to his family and community will always be cherished.

Lyn will forever be missed and remembered by his mother, Norma, his wife of 53 years Delaine, sons Jeffery (Kelly), Craig (Tonja), Peter (Carrie), grandchildren Jennifer, James, Jeremy, Paige, Andrew, Morgan, MacKenzie, Alex, Nicholas, many nieces and nephews, sisters Susan Fenn, Joyce Truscott and Gwen Counseller, and brothers Larry Counseller and Tom Truscott. Lyn was preceded in death by his father Norval Counseller and George and Jessie Skory.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Weller officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family wishes to thank the ICU physicians, nurses and staff for their skill and compassion in his care. Donations may be made to Volunteer Services, McLaren Health Care, Greater Lansing.

Lyn was like a breath of fresh air on a hot, muggy day. We worked together on the Canterbury Board, the MSU chaplaincy, for several years. His fresh ideas, optimism, youthfulness, business sense, willingness to tackle hard issues and especially love of life was contagious. Lyn and Delaine, quite the team! May Lyn rest in peace.
