Annette F. Burke

Annette was born on October 1, 1920 in Pittsburgh PA, but moved with her family at an early age to Little Rock, Arkansas.  She passed away January 13, 2012 in Grand Rapids.

She attended LSU. When World War II came, Annette returned home to Little Rock and found herself volunteering in the USO in Little Rock where she met Lt. Henry Fine from Lansing, MI. Henry and Annette were married in January 1943. After the end of the War she moved with Henry to Lansing where they raised two children. She spent most of her life living in the Midwest.  After losing Henry at an early age, she remarried Jack Burke and moved to Toledo, OH. She and Jack shared time between Toledo and Pompano Beach, FL.  In her last years, Annette moved back to Michigan (Grand Rapids) to be closer to her family.

Annette was predeceased by her parents Louis Jack and Frances Abramson and her brother, Milton Abramson.  She was also predeceased by the loves of her life, Henry Fine and Jack Burke. She is survived by her children, Lucy (Charles) Caldwell and Jerry (Jill) Fine and their children, Laura (Cole) Stanley, Elizabeth (Jason) Christopherson, Tom (Emily) Caldwell, Abigail Caldwell, Andrew (Pamela) Fine, Eric Fine and Brooke Fine.  She also is survived by her stepchildren, Lester (Linda) Burke, Elaine (Donald) Green, Michael (Lois) Burke and Steven Burke and their 9 children. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren.  She was Grandma, Nana, Pinky and GG.

She will be remembered fondly for many things, among them her chocolate chip cookies, her interest in sports and all things involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Ever the Southern Belle, we always believed that as long as she lived, the Old South would not die.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge Road, East Lansing, MI 48823 with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Fine Library at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
