Thomas C. Smith

Age 74, of Williamston, passed away January 5, 2012. He was born November 10, 1937, in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle Smith.

Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Euchre, and ice skating on his pond. He was a great storyteller and hobby farmer. He worked as a sales engineer for Micro-Poise Engineering and was involved in designing tire-balancing equipment for the automotive industry.

Tom is survived by his children, Susan (Shane) Gruber, Lisa (Doug) Bowerman, Thomas (Shelly) Smith; grandchildren, Nicki Gruber, Emily (Kenneth) Wakeman and their daughter Ellie, Katie Gruber, Daniel and Bret Bowerman, and Fletcher and Kortney Smith; brothers, Joe (Sandy) Smith and Bob (Linda) Smith; many nieces and nephews and other extended family members; and special friend, Allison Hicks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Denise Smith, in 2005; his sister, Pat; and brothers, George and Jim.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Clark at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 157 High St., Williamston, MI. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
