Kathleen A. Weinstein

Kathleen (Cherniss) Weinstein, 66, of Mason, lost a brave battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on October 31, 2011. She was born on August 30, 1945 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and grew up in Stockton, California, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1963. She worked at the San Joaquin Co. sheriff’s office until 1968. Kathy spent most of her adult life in Grants Pass, Oregon with her loving husband Ron and three children: Ken (Kathy), Barbara, and Karen. She owned the Rolling Pin Bakery and worked in the county assessor’s and HUD offices. She was an active leader in both 4-H and Girl Scouts, as well as an NVHS booster.

In 1998 Kathy and Ron moved to Michigan to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Her eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kara, Kaleb, Zoe, Kyle, Isaac, Nathan, and Maddie, were the light of her life. She retired from Weston Solutions in Okemos, Michigan, and served as Commander of the Lansing DAV Auxiliary, Chapter 8.  Kathy was dedicated to her family.  She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, sewing, photography, and painting.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, brother Lou Cherniss of Thailand, and sisters Ardythe Hess of Stockton and Sally Casner of Oroville, California.

Per Kathy’s request, a private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers or cards please make a memorial donation to MDA-ALS Division, 3300 E. Sunrise Dr., Tucson, AZ  85718 (www.als-mda.org). Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
