Alona June Dreps Huckins, Haslett, went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2011. Alona was born on February 5, 1921, in Lansing. In February 2011 she celebrated her 90th birthday with her family. Alona was the daughter of the late Minnie (Hazel) Snyder Seymour and Herman Dreps.

Alona was a lifelong resident of Lansing and Haslett. She graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing. She was a District Manager for Avon for 35 years, retiring in 1992. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling around the world, playing cards, going to the Parkwood YMCA, and reading. She also enjoyed a lifelong love of animals and adopted many furry friends.

She is survived and will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Mary Huckins, Manitowoc, WI; five grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Shelly and Michael Payne, Redmond, OR; Dina Huckins Maneval, St. Johns, MI; Amy Huckins and special friend Scott Hetzel, Menasha, WI; Brian and Laura Huckins, Appleton, WI; and Eric Huckins and special friend Jackie Muchin, Manitowoc, WI; her two loving great-grandsons, Wyatt and Colton Maneval, and another great-grandchild who is due on her birthday in February 2012. She is further survived by special friends Steve and Kathleen Lathrop of Haslett, and many other relatives and wonderful friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw, Lansing, MI, with Pastor Justin Ringstaff of Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.  If desired, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Raymond Hansen, Kathleen Lathrop, Great Lakes Home Health Care, Ingham County Rehabilitation Center, and Stoneleigh Hospice for the compassionate care given to Alona.

Ron Rowe , Haslett Mi Says:

Dennis: Condolences during this difficult time in your family. Your Mom sounds like she was a busy & involved person & will be missed. I seldom notice names from my past, but Her’s (thus your’s) brought back memories of the ’75 or ’76 Jaycees Canoe Race on The Red Cedar–ending @ “Monty’s”. As canoe partners, we did exceptionally well. My wife & I now Kayak frequently similar areas & also from Williamson, on the Red Cedar.

Prayers for your Mom & your Family, as you travel to & from the Michigan area again. Monty’s is long gone, But: “I Remember Better Days, & YOU !” Ron Ratherbeskiing@aol.com
