Steve A. Dines

Our wonderful husband, father, and brother completed his journey fittingly on Father’s Day, June 19, 2011. Born in Battle Creek in 1927, he lived most of his life in Lansing. He also resided in Naples, Florida.

Upon discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked for the State Liquor Commission for 42 years, culminating in his supervisor position traveling the state that he loved.  Upon retiring, he moved to Naples, Florida, and enjoyed driving a tram to the beach with a captive audience where he was quick to smile and even quicker to tell his jokes.  A true MSU fan, Steve prided his streak of attending at least one football game for over 50 years.  A call of “Go Green” was always answered with “Go White”.  He was a member of The Old Newsboys and Civitan Club, always lending a helping hand.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Athena; son, Garry (Elaine), daughters, Kalina and Charissa (Stephen); grandchildren, Elliot, Alissa, Athena, Alexander, James; great-grandchildren, Mouhanned and Dionysis; sister, Mary; brother, Pondo; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church, 1216 Greencrest Ave., East Lansing, MI. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. with Panikhida at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Old Newsboys of Greater Lansing.

He is greatly loved and will live in the hearts of us all.
