Ruth C. Pogoncheff passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at the age of 82.  She was born March 28, 1929 in Lansing, the daughter of the late Christ and Sylvia (Popoff) Markoff.  Ruth was co-owner of Washington Foods.  She was a baker and master cake decorator.  She was a life-long member of St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church.

Surviving are her children, Gregory Pogoncheff, Elaine Pogoncheff (Nancy English), Gina (Robert) Stanley, and Catherine (Ralph) Hansen; grandchildren, James Stanley (Melanie Weytkow), Nicole Stanley, Ryan Swan, Lucas Hansen, and Kevin Hansen; sister, Helen (Phillip) Nicholoff and sister-in-law, Frances Markoff.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Christ Pogoncheff and brother, George Markoff.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Christopher Rozdilski officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, with a Panikheda at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church.

    Dear Pogo and Family,

    So sorry to here about your loss. It’s tough when you loose a parent.

    Pogo, you are a great son for having taking such good care of both of your parents in the golden years of their life. The nice thing is that they are togather again for eturnity.

    Love ya, miss ya, and if you need to talk feel free to call, John has my # I can relate alot, because I was lucky to have taken care of my dad the last 3 years of his life. Jomo
