Ethel L. Kocman

Holt, Michigan

Age 100, went to be with the Lord she loved and served on July 10, 2016.  She was born September 5, 1915, in Whiting, IN.  Ethel was a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod all of her life, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and President of the Ladies Aid for 23 years in Indiana, before moving to Michigan in 1991.  She currently was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Portage, MI.  Most of her adult life Ethel was known and loved for her wonderful baking, canning from her garden, and making jelly from her fruit trees.  She also loved to sew.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James, in 2001, and by her great-granddaughter, Jessica Ketchum.  Surviving are:  daughters, Janice (Mark) Hough of Kalamazoo and Karen (Rev. Glen) Neal of Charlotte; 7 grandchildren, Julie (Kevin) McCallum, Jay (Lori) Hatz, Jonathan (Marti) Hatz, Jane (Michael) Thelen, Marsha Neal, Nancy Sullivan and Mark (LeeAnn) Neal; 14 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday.  A luncheon will follow for family and friends at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Holt.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan in memory of Ethel Kocman.
