James Robert Hanchett

James R. HanchettAge 83, passed away May 8, 2016.  He was born November 13, 1932, in Lansing, to Oscar and Sarah Hanchett.  James graduated from high school, attended college and joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the U.S.S. Forrestal.  After his military service, he was employed at Ameritech as a switch supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoJean; his sons, Michael and Ronald Hanchett; his parents; brothers, Richard, Ronald and George Hanchett.  Surviving are:  2 sons, Timothy (Ruth Hughes) Hanchett, and Frederick (Dawn) Bottomley; 8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Barbara, JoAnn and Carol Hanchett and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until service time on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autumwood of McBain in memory of James Hanchett.

My world is now a sadder place. I already miss you so much. Our long long talks. Sometimes in the late hours of the night. You were so easy to talk to about anything. And everything. So many times I cried on your shoulder. You were a voice of reason in my life. I remember how hard it was to get you to say I love you at the end of our calls. It became a game with us. Guess what. So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He was a good friend of my husband Richard, they used to work and play together when he was with MBT. Prayers for the family are being sent.

Tim, Fred, and Family. I’m sad to hear of Jim’s passing, He was a great person took good care of Aunt Jojean and Grandpa Kenneth through the years. Have alot of respect for him and his Big Heart! R.I.P. Uncle Jim. God Has A Special Place for YOU!
