Veronica J. Wilson

Veronica Wilson passed away April 7, 2016, at age 79, amazingly the same day nine years ago that her beloved husband, Donald, also passed. She was born in Lansing on December 10th of 1936 to John and Bernita (Ward) Foland.

She graduated from Everett High School in 1955, and attended Kendall College of Art and Design. She worked at small jobs, and then for the State of Michigan for a few years before she began a wood-carved sign company with her husband of the time, Jake Smeltzer. They also worked in other media, including vacuum-formed signs; Veronica was quite creative and took on other jobs that stretched the limits of her imagination and the business. After 20 years, illness forced her to close the company down.

She always loved flowers and plants, and at one time did flower arranging. She was an MSU basketball and football fan, watching games when she could. She was also an avid shopper, and loved going to see the latest movies with her sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hathaway and her sister, Fleeta Nettleman. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ralph Hathaway, second husband Jake (Leon) Smeltzer, and third husband Donald Wilson.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Her family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for her family at www.EstesLeadley.com

Lisa and Fleeta…my condolences on Vonnie’s passing. I have fond memories of her throughout my life and especially the summer I worked for her in the woodworking shop on the river. She was a special lady and will be missed by many but none more than you two.
