Holt, Michigan.

William “Bill” Walker Jr., 67, of Holt, Michigan passed away on October 12, 2015, at his home.  Bill was born October 17, 1947, to William and Dorothy Walker.  On June 28, 1980, he married Deborah (Blackford) Walker in Walker, MI.  Bill was a remarkable man who lived what he called a ‘hard life for a simple man’.  Wearing camo or team gear, wherever Bill went, his coffee cup, blue cooler, and beloved dog were always with him.  He was a decorated Army Ranger in the Vietnam War.  He was an avid deer hunter, hunting with a group known as the Bucksmuckers.  He loved to fish, bowl, garden, play cards and cribbage, watch sports, take road trips, and work on cars.  Bill spent hours in his garage tinkering with everything, sharing stories of his life and offering advice that always ended with “you know what I mean buddy”.  “Wishing I was fishing” and “I’d rather be in the woods” were not just sayings in Bill’s life, but commandments that he lived by.  Bill was only happy if he was doing something, he never sat still, and lived a full life enjoying each and every day.

Bill loved learning, teaching, history, his family and his ‘buckos’.  He loved sports and found extreme joy in coaching softball and working as an ASA certified Umpire.  Bill was an ASE certified Mechanic and Parts Specialist.  A special thanks goes to Sparrow Hospital and Heartland Hospice.  Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Walker; children, Staci (James) Hagan, Dan (Autum) Robinson, Chad (Sonya) Robinson, Elizabeth (Jesse) Collins, and Laura Walker; grandchildren, Ambree Maxey, Nevaeh and Noah Collins, Paige and Owen Robinson, and Tyler, Kaylee, Noah, Abbie and Eva Robinson; siblings (nieces and nephews), Jan McManamey (Steve, Traci, Dana, Amy, Holly, Lori), Carolyn (Dan) Helmic (Dean, Candy, Randy), Joyce Hoggard (Tim, Troy, Trisha), and Larry Walker; siblings-in-law, Steve (Diane) Blackford, Karen Blackford (son Jeff Hubbard), Al Blackford, and Jeff Blackford; friends of the heart, Shane Reitz, Justin Hofbauer, Jason Mann, Treg Garrow, Josh Coker, Ryan Dyer, Paul Sowards Jr., Charles Coscarelli, Lonnie Collins, Mike Jacobson, Robert LePlante, the Wood family, and the Smith family, and many more friends.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patty Tipka (Laura, Gwen).  Bill wanted everyone to remember him with a smile, and yes, he took your lighter.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the South Lansing Christian Church located at: 6300 Aurelius Road, Lansing, MI 48911.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Heartland Hospice, or Sparrow Hospital.
