Irvin J. Lehmann

In loving memory of Irvin J. Lehmann

Irv was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  He passed away in Denver, CO, on August 12, 2015, at the age of 87. He attended college in Winnipeg and graduate school at University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Irv married Ruth Slusky in 1957. They were devoted to their children, Allan Lehmann and Ilene Lehmann Pollet, and grandchildren, Max, Alexi, Eli and Aviva Pollet, Zachary and Joshua Lehmann.

Irv was a Professor of Statistics at Michigan State University.  He loved his profession.  Until the day he died, just hearing the word statistics made his eyes light up and brought a smile to his lips.

On Saturday mornings Irv was a fixture at the Shaarey Zedek synagogue.  Judaism was the compass of his life.

Our Dad loved a good time.  He was fun and made people around him feel good about themselves.  He enjoyed socializing and never missed an opportunity to enjoy music.

The last few years Irv lived with his adult children and grandchildren in Palm Springs and Denver.

Thank you Dad. The gifts you bestowed on us are immeasurable. May we always honor your dedication to family, your love of fun, music and bright colors and your commitment to hard work. May we always be kind.

The funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing with Rabbi Amy Bigman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing.

Irv was a great person, a gentle soul, and a good friend. He made important contributions to his profession and continued to contribute well after his formal retirement. He always had a kind word for everyone he met and greeted everyone with a smile. I will miss him greatly.

I worked with Dr. Lehmann for 12 years when he was involved with the National Council on Measurement in Education while working in University College Department at Michigan State University. He was a good boss! He was fun, funny and always enjoyed the people around him. He will be missed by his many friends.

Prof Irv has been a great ‘guru’ of statistics for me. He was my supervisor for Master in Arts Program at MSU in 1997. I am very great full for his guidance through out my studies.
