Anna M. Cook Klein

Lansing, Michigan

Born on October 4, 1931, in Lansing, Anna joined our Lord on Monday, July 13, 2015.  She was preceded in death by her parents, C. Dennis Cook, Florence Gibson Cook Shiebels and Jennie June Bennett Cook; her brother Joseph and sisters Lucille Cook Bolinsky and Catharine “Kate” Cook; son, William Klein II; and ex-husband, William Klein.

Anna’s greatest joy was her family.  She loved spending time with them and was happiest on family trips. She will be dearly missed by her children: Denise Dutter (Bob); John “Hank” Klein (special friend, Cindy); Andrea Klein-Yancho (Jeff); Deanna Moore; David Klein (special friend, Christina) and her son by heart, Todd Birdsall. Her 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, along with honorary grandchildren Tim Rogers, Nate Roland, Darcie Saefkow and Amanda Barkema were especially important to her. A sister, Vivian Cook Carpenter, many nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and -nephews and a growing number of great-great-nieces and nephews also survive Anna.

In addition to enjoying her immediate and extended family and friends, Anna loved to travel to any place anyone was going.  She was always ready to go. Casino trips were a highlight of her retirement years.

Anna joined the State of Michigan Department of State after graduating from high school.  She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in 1952.  After discharge, she returned to the State of Michigan and worked there until her retirement.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Breslin Cancer Center, with special thanks to Dr. Anas Al-Janadi and Pete Bennick and to the Hospice of Lansing.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015, at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 815 Sparrow Ave., Lansing. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Since 1953, St. Casimir Catholic Church had been Anna’s church home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Casimir.

Thank you,Lord, for lending Anna to us.She surely lives on,not just in You and through You,but also in all of those she holds dear, especially as they strive to serve God through serving others,as she led by example.
She was a charming, funny lady.I know she is surely smiling at you all right now as you remember her.Enjoying the presence of God and Her loved ones in heaven.
My mom Barbara was very close to her.She said they were more like sisters, than cousins. It is wonderful knowing they are together again, and that this life’s pains and sorrows no longer exist for them.
“Anna Babe” was very Loved and for so many good reasons.May her Loved ones find Joy through their sorrow in remembering all the special moments they shared,Divine Peace and Comfort in the Hope of the Resurrection
and in
All the Promises God extends to us,His Beloved Ones.
In Jesus Precious Name.Amen.
Melissa Ann

Anna Marie Klein was a wonderful person that people remembered once they met her. She was not loud and boisterous, but was kind, and on the quiet side. I had the pleasure of working with Anna for many years, and found her to be quiet, but firm, opinionated, but consistent, and someone you could trust implicitly.

Anna was also my neighbor, and lived on the East side of our neighborhood, Wexford Hgts. Subdivision. She always kept her property clean and neat, and her flowers and plants were a pleasure to see.

She was a joy to talk with. In one of our last conversations together, Anna said that she did not want people to feel sorry for her because she was dealing with cancer. She opined that, she never dreamt of living this long; thought she would be ‘dead and gone’ long before now. She said that, by reaching and passing her eightieth birthday, “I’ve already beat the cancer”. She said that she saw every day she lived as a blessing and a ‘bonus’.

That is the kind of person Anna was, forthright, down to earth and always looking at life through common sense.

Would that we all look at life through Anna’s eyes. Every day we are given is a gift, and may even be a ‘bonus’. The most important aspect of our relationship was that Anna knew her Savior, and was not shy about telling others that she was going to Heaven because of what Jesus did for her.

I will honor her memory, and I am thankful to have know her.
