Age 77, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away May 19, 2015 in Lansing. She was born March 22, 1938 in Painesdale, Michigan to the late John and Toini (Marttila) Kovala.

Helen was a graduate of Hancock High School in Upper Peninsula, Michigan, and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Helen was a Member of Plymouth Congregational Church; where she served as a Lay Minister, was a church Historian, member of the Library Committee, was a Sunday School Teacher, was on various church boards and was the past Women’s Fellowship President. Helen was a member of: Women of the Moose Lodge #116, Lansing, as past post chaplain;  Order of the Eastern Star #14, as a past officer; member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #12, Lansing, as past 6th District President, Department Chairman and Committee Member; was a Silver Key of the 40Et8; La Femme Cabane #946; Capital Area Church and Synagogue Libraries, as past President; and Capital Area Girl Scouts, as past Scout Leader, and area Chairwoman; was a member of the Red Hat Society, and Friends of the Library.

Helen is survived by a son Mark (Renee) Elliott, a daughter Suzanne Elliott, and a grandson Alex Elliott. She was preceded in death by her husband William Elliott, Jr., and a son Steven Elliott.

The funeral for Helen will be Saturday, May 23, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, 48912 with Pastor Bob Higle officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with an evening service to be held at 7:30 p.m., at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Plymouth Congregational Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
