Blanche Louise (Richey) Dunn

Mason, Michigan

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend went home to be with her Lord on April 4, 2015, at the age of 93.  Born to Burdon and Katie Richey on January 14, 1922, in Alma, MI, she was the eldest of seven children.

Surviving Blanche are her loving husband, Lawrence Dunn; daughters, Mary Blair, Nancy (Jim) Stillson and Kathi (John) Betts; sons, David Dunn and Jim (Kristy) Dunn; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Blanche worked tirelessly for her family and was a loving mother to her five children and a devoted partner to her husband of 71 years.  She and Larry met at a church party, were engaged on Pearl Harbor Day, were married in Florida in 1943, and returned to winter there for 36 years after he retired.

Among her greatest joys were her family, her home, and her garden; she and Larry grew most of their own food and maintained impressive vegetable and flower gardens at the home they shared for 65 years.  She enjoyed frequent family camping trips when the children were young and, in later years, square dancing with Larry and their friends.  She also loved playing cards, Scrabble, and her daily crossword puzzles.

Blanche was a member of Holt United Methodist Church since 1956.  She was a compassionate and gentle soul who never had an unkind word to say; she was a true friend to all who knew her.

Her family wishes to extend their thanks to Grace Hospice for their loving care, with special thanks to Ashley and Misty.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius Rd., Holt. Interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel and beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holt United Methodist Church.

My Aunt Blanche married to my dads brother, Larry, provided a playmate and a long time friend in their first child, Mary. Living nearby
earlier on, our families enjoyed many memorable times together. From
my childhood I recall hot cocoa with marshmallows, gathering wild
flowers, French braids. She grew and prepared food from their garden
for her family. We camped together in MI and she and Larry visited our
FL home. She loved crossword puzzles, scrabble and cards. Her kind
loving presence will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew
her. Our sympathies go out to her family with our love, Norm and
Dianna (Dunn) Stuck and our daughters families as well.
