Alan Cordill, age 79, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away March 4, 2015. He was born on April 6, 1935 in Sturgis, MI and was a resident of Lansing for 58 years. Alan was a 50-year employee of the Lansing School District. He was a teacher at West Junior High and Rich Middle Schools for 34 years, retiring in 1991. During his professional career, he taught economics, typing, and clerical skills to over eight thousand Lansing students. Following his retirement, he continued to serve as building treasurer of Rich Middle School until 2007.
Alan was president of his senior class at Alma High School in 1952-53. He was a graduate of Alma College and Michigan State University, earning BA and MA degrees respectively. He also served six years in the Michigan Army National Guard.
Preceding Alan in death were his parents, Paul and Sarah Cordill. He is survived by his many friends and former students.
A graveside service will be held at Noon on Friday, March 13, 2015, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Sturgis, MI. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alan G. Cordill Endowed Scholarship Fund, Alma College, 614 W. Superior St., Alma, Michigan 48801 or the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Alan. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
