Age 78, of Lansing, passed away December 9, 2010. He was born on November 9, 1932 in DeTour Village, MI son of the late Albert and Nellie Fountain.

Vernon retired from the City of Lansing following 32 years of service and was a youth basketball coach at Faith United Methodist Church for many years. He was a dedicated family man. His life revolved around his children and grandchildren. He attended their various events and was very proud of all of their accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma E. Fountain. He is survived by his 4 children, Mickey (Sandy) Fountain and their children, Michael and Jordynn Fountain, Glenn (Sue) Fountain and their children, Eric, Emily and Jason Fountain, Janet (Chris) Guttridge and their children, Nolan and Kristen Guttridge, and Joan (Scott) Dunlap and their children Kirk and Katie Dunlap; brother, Albert (Joann) Fountain, Jr.; sister, Marilynn (Herbert) Sharples; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour Village. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to DeTour Union Presbyterian Church, 166 N. Ontario St., DeTour Village, MI 49725.

    Joan, I loved your dad. He was the best. I’ll pay my respects this spring in DeTour. So, so sorry for your loss. I’ll miss him.
