Age 86. Our loving and much loved, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed onto heaven to join our Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 4, 2010.  Her husband Lawrence “Wally” Burger and so many who have passed on before her, await her with open arms.

Esto was born May 16, 1924, in Clinton, Illinois, to Edmund and Carol (Dufner) Obermeyer who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her brother Bobby.

Surviving are her son, Steve (Carol) Burger of Champaign, IL, daughters Nancy (Brian) Pickford of Lansing, Susan Burger of Lansing, granddaughters Shelby (Matthew) Hicks of Safety Harbor, FL, Jennifer Pickford of Lansing, sister Maxine (Stanley) Harris of Clinton, IL, brother James (Wanda) Obermeyer of Clinton, IL and many loving and devoted family members and friends.

In 1945, Esto graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Bloomington, IL and worked for many years as a nurse in the office of Dr. Kenneth Johnson.  Esto loved people and was a longtime volunteer at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Penn. Campus.  She had a keen sense of humor which provided many delightful moments and the ability to overcome adversity with a positive outlook and a strong and lasting faith in the Lord.

The funeral service for Esto will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor David Brooks officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010, officiated by the Rev. Kent Hickerson.  Memorial contributions may be made to South Church of Lansing, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Sparrow Hospice.  Although she will be deeply missed by family and friends, Esto is now in a place where illness has no power, time has no end and infinite love surrounds her.

Dear Steve, Nancy, Susan and your families. Mom doesn’t “do” the internet but she asked us to extend her heartfelt love to you all. Their’s was a friendship that lasted more than 65 years – since their time in nursing training. Our Mom and Dad thought the world of your folks, and with good reason. They were wonderful people!
    With Love, The Thorson Family

Karen Boomer called us Sunday evening. We are so sorry to lose our best neighbor ever. Unfortunately, we will be unable to drive up from Mississippi. But, God sometimes works in mysterious ways. We made a trip to Michigan in late August and spent many happy hours with your Mom at the rehab center – laughing until we cried, crying until we had to laugh. What a glorious visit that was. And, as you stated in the obituary, now she is with her beloved Wally again. We will keep your family close in our prayers.
