Margaret Anne Gifford Linz

Margaret Anne Gifford Linz was a woman of many interests and talents to which she devoted herself unstintingly. In doing so, she touched the lives of many others during her lifetime. Margaret departed this life peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the age of 57 years. She was born on December 20, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to Norman Augustus Gifford and Edna Ruth (McKee) Gifford, both of whom preceded her in death.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, also at Michigan State. She had been working in infectious disease control at the Ingham County Health Department.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Christopher, and their four children: Rebecca Michelle Linz-O’Laughlin (Carolyn O’Laughlin) of Bronxville, N.Y., Sarah Gifford Linz  of Okemos, Mich., Rachel Stephanie Linz (Max Johnson) of Portland, Ore., Hannah Ruth Linz (attending Indiana University), two beloved grandchildren (Avery and Caleb Linz-O’Laughlin) and by her brother Paul Gifford (Flint, Mich.), sister-in-law MaryJo, and niece Katya.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home at 325 W. Washtenaw St. in Lansing. A meal-of-remembrance will follow at Congregation Kehillat Israel at 2014 Forest Road in Lansing. Friends are invited to sit Shiva at the Linz family home (1277 Mizzen Dr. in Okemos) on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 7 and 8, starting at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Congregation Kehillat Israel.
