Sister Betty Estell Kirk (McDermott) was born April 21, 1950 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. She went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the age of 64, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan.  Betty was passionate about serving the Lord and was a member at Apostolic Tower of Power Temple in Lansing.

She leaves to mourn her passing: 2 children, Andréa M. (Richard) Evans of Osan, S. Korea and Lamont M. McDermott of Lansing, Michigan; 2 very close family friends, Teri A. Ruthruff whom she considered her daughter and Donald Raymond whom she considered her son; 6 brothers, Little L. McDermott, William G. McDermott, Berlie Harrison Jr., Jeffery L. Harrison, Dale E. Harrison and Francis G. Harrison; and 1 sister, Aleccia Z.J. Harrison.  She leaves her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Carlesta R. (Booper) Kirk; her mother, Evangelist Sara E. Harrison; and her sister, Theresa A. Travics.

Betty was a diligent worker in her church; she served as the kitchen captain.  She also worked with the Home Mission Assistant Secretary for the Great Lakes Conference and was a former member of the choir. She assisted in any department that needed attention.  Betty was fun, loving, and very caring.  She would help anyone; she often offered her home to anyone in need.  Some of our fondest memories of her are playing all kinds of board games with family and friends.  She also loved to sew, cook and go fishing.

A Homegoing Celebration will take place 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Bishop Nathaniel Edwards, Sr. of the Apostolic Tower of Power Temple, officiating; interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing, Michigan.
