At the age of 66, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away April 28, 2014. She was born August 16, 1947, in Battle Creek, MI, daughter of Stafford and Maria Jersey.

Margo was a 1965 graduate of O’Rafferty High School formerly located in Lansing. She was a retired hospice nurse and spent the majority of her career caring for terminally ill patients, giving them peace and comfort on their final journey.  She resided in Holt, Michigan, spending the last year of her life in Ludington overlooking Lake Michigan, fulfilling a lifelong dream.  Her entire world revolved around her grandchildren, their activities, their dreams and their passions, they are what she lived each day for.

Margo was known to many in the Holt and Mason area as “Grandma Margo” or simply “Grams.” She touched the lives of so many kids in both communities, many reaching out to her for advice or simply stopping by to visit and enjoy her sassy free-spirited stubborn yet kindhearted demeanor. A mom to many, a grandma to some and an angel on earth.  She is finally at peace, without pain, and able to rest with her sisters and her sweet, sweet Lily.

Margo is survived by the love of her life and husband of 37 years, Thomas; daughter, Heather Patton (Lynn); son, Joshua Stellanger (Gwenneth); grandchildren and centers of her entire world, Rachel Patton, Madison Patton, Kelsie Patton, Merrik Stellanger and Crichton Stellanger; and sister, Maryann Fillis of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as sisters Emily Brussow and Noreen Jersey and her sweet angel, granddaughter Lily Stellanger.

Margo was our mother.

She was your mother, too,

Whether she gave birth to you or not.

She was a woman full of life,

Full of advice, and guidance,

Whether you wanted it or not.

She delighted in the presence of children,

In their sheer imagination and joy;

Her children, and their children in turn,

and the children of others

Reflected that joy back to her,

And her mind wove stories and poetry from that joy,

Stories of moonlight and fairies and innocence.

In a life with little peace, she brought peace when she could,

Soothing children’s wounds and fears,

Helping the old and sick pass with ease and without worry.

We will take the spark of that peace that she kindled within us

And she will continue to shape the world as we shine brightly.

    Martha Wackerly Hermes Says:

To all of Margo’s family and friends….I remember all too well the sweet disposition Margo had even in High School. I was stunned to think that she has passed so young. But there is no doubt she is dancing with our Lord….my school years were definitely richer because of knowing her. I will miss you. Until we meet once again….know she was an incredible woman, mother and friend.

    God bless all of you,

    Marty Hermes, Clearwater FL
