Betty A. Fay

Betty Anita Fay died on Thursday, April 24, 2014, in Lansing, MI. She was born to Ernest and Elizabeth “Tizzie” (Keller-Harrington) Draheim on June 19, 1919, in Lansing, MI.

On October 22, 1939 she married the love of her life John W. Fay in Holt, MI where they raised 3 sons, Gary (Nancy) Fay of Arcadia, OH, Greg (Julie) Fay of Myrtle Beach, SC and Steven Fay of Holt. After raising her family Betty went back to school and received a degree in education from MSU which she put to good use teaching elementary school and reading for 20 years at Holt Elementary. She was a devoted member of the Holt United Methodist Church and their women’s circle. During retirement she spent many hours volunteering at Ingham Medical Hospital in Lansing. She enjoyed nearly 50 years at the Portage Lake cottage where many friends and family members were able to visit and take pontoon rides. She will be greatly missed by her many card playing buddies.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1989; and her brother, Erwin “Erv” Draheim in 2006. Besides her 3 sons and their spouses she leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Draheim of Holt and Pearl Fay of Washington, MI.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Ingham Medical (McLaren), Rehab at Dobie Road and Hospice of Lansing.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Holt United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, with an hour prior visitation at the church on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, Betty would like memorial contributions to be made to Holt United Methodist Church or Hospice of Lansing-Stoneleigh Residence.
