Age 87, of Holt, MI, passed away peacefully at her home on April 9, 2014, with family at her side. Rose was born on June 8, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, to Joseph and Sadie (Shaheen) Simon.  She was preceded in passing by her parents and brothers Abraham, John and Samuel.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband and true love of nearly 61 years, Arthur Gruenwald; three devoted daughters, Paula Buckman (Joseph Buckman), Lynn Gruenwald (Norm Williams), and Gail Gruenwald  (Wil Cwikiel); two adored granddaughters, Kate Cwikiel and Sadie Cwikiel; sister, Jeanette Bopp; and many special nieces and nephews.

Rose was a beautiful and gracious woman.  She was a genuine listener who always put the interests of others ahead of her own.  Rose lived her life with a great sense of humor and profound wisdom.

Rose graduated from Western High School in 1944.  Prior to marriage, she worked for several years as executive secretary to the president of Cadillac Motors.  She also worked many years at Honeywell Corporation before she retired.

Over the years, she enjoyed morning crosswords, golfing, bowling, oil painting, and reading about health and nutrition. She was passionate about animal rights and belonged to several organizations to help animals.

Rose and Art created many happy memories for family and friends at their cottage in Empire, Michigan and in Florida during the winters.

Above all, Rose devoted her life to her husband and family.  Thank you for being the Angel in our lives.  We will love and miss you until we come to join you, where the ‘Sun Always Shines’.

A private family memorial service will be held. Friends and family are encouraged to visit the Estes-Leadley website to view Rose’s photo memory book and to share a condolence, at

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Rose’s honor to the Michigan Humane Society  (1-248-283-5659, tribute #736844) or  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (1-800-822-6344, tribute #35824607).

When I am gone, release me, let me go.

I have so many things to see and do

You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears.

Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it’s time I traveled on alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must.

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It’s only for a while that we must part,

So bless those memories in your heart.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on.

So if you need me, call and I will come,

Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near

And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear

All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,

I’ll greet you with a smile and ‘Welcome Home.’
