Genevieve R. "Jean" Walacavage

Lansing, Michigan.  Born February 1, 1921 in Wallingford, Connecticut daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Janeck passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at age 92.

Jean worked as a secretary for the State of Michigan, Department of Public Health for 20 years. She was a former member of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, a current member of St. Mary Cathedral, sang for many years in the choir of both churches and served as Eucharistic Minister.

Surviving are her two sons; Peter (Eva) Walacavage and Alex (Tena) Walacavage; seven grandchildren, A.J. Walacavage, Kristin (Steve) Panganis, Allison (Matt) Piggott, Kimberly Walacavage, Amanda, Nick (Shelley), and Korey VanDeventer; three great grandchildren, Chasen Panganis, Anna Piggott, and Claire VanDeventer; brother-in-law, Bob Benedict, Major US AirForce (Ret.) along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Walacavage in 1973; brother, Leo Janeck; and sister, Helen Taylor.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave., Lansing. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday, December 26th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Genevieve, to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility Foundation.
