Jean A. Shawver

Jean A. Shawver was born November 1, 1934 in Lansing, MI to Walter and Theodora Jenvey and died on Friday, October 11, 2013. Jean married Thomas L. Shawver in 1962 and they celebrated 46 years together before his death in 2008.

Jean was involved in the Lansing community having taught in the Lansing School District. She was very active in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church serving on the Episcopal Church Women Steering Committee, former President of the St. Elizabeth Guild and served on the Vestry. She was currently the Church Archivist and serving on several committees. She was also a longtime member of the PEO, Chapter BB and the current Corresponding Secretary.

Jean loved children, dogs, horses, flowers, music and art of all kinds. She was multi-talented as a seamstress, quilter, weaver, pianist, vocalist, cook, home-maker, organizer, among others. She was a unique person and proud of it, knowing herself and daring anyone to change her. Her brilliant mind was attuned both to this world and realms most of us cannot imagine. Her keen wit and irrepressible laugh, as well as her generosity and warm heart, endeared her to countless people wherever she went.

Though her life was irreversibly changed by the death of her beloved husband, Tom, she continued on with courage, determination and strong faith. She loved her church and will be deeply missed by its congregation.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother, Walter and sister-in-law, Margaret. She is survived by nephews Timothy, Bruce and Doug Jenvey and Gary, Brian, Scott and David Delp.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Karen C. Lewis officiating. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Shawver Fund for Special Programs, c/o St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa, Lansing, MI 48933.
