Age 87, passed away August 25, 2013.  He was born December 3, 1925, in Ellsworth, MI, to Harry and Eva Swain.  Clair graduated from Ellsworth High School, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.  He owned a Sunoco gas station before working at General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1982.  In 1943, he worked in a conservation camp in Roscommon.  Clair was a member of the American Legion, former member and former president of the South Lansing Kiwanis Club, and a square dance club.

Surviving are:  his wife, Ruth Benninger; children, Ruth Ann (Robert) McKean, Steven Swain (Tom Lovaas)  and David (Kathy) Swain; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Kaiser.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Margaret Kohlmeyer and Kathlyn Benninger; daugher, Nancy Lou Jenks; and several siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with interment to follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Clair L. Swain.
