Thelma E. Norris

Age 89, of Lansing, passed away, March 25, 2013 in Charlotte.  She was born September 6, 1923 in Boyne Falls, MI to Jesse and Maude Arnold.

Thelma worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 25 years, retiring with her husband Richard “Keith” Norris; the first couple to retire together from MDOT, at their retirement MDOT honored them with a roadside park in their names located in Detour, MI. She was an avid bowler, flower gardener, and enjoyed fishing. She and Keith enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Drummond Island, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Thelma is survived by her children: Monty (Joina) Norris, Linda Norris, and Chuck (Sue) Norris; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Judy) Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 63 ½ years Richard “Keith” Norris, daughters: Carolyn Norris and Marilyn Summers; grandson, James R.A. Bosheff; and sisters: Joyce Arnold, Polly Scott, and Reva Schueller.

The funeral for Thelma Norris will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with interment to following Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. There will be visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I smile when I think of Thelma and all the very happy times we had on Drummond Island, especially the Perch fishing and bear watching. She was very warm, kind and funny. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. I know you will miss her deeply… she was a wonderful lady!

We have fond memories of Thelma and Keith. We are in Tucson and are unable to attend any services. Our condolences to her family.
