William James "Jim" Pierce

Jim PierceAt age 79, Jim went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 27, 2013.  He was born April 9, 1933, in Grass Lake, Michigan, to Max and Viola Pierce. 

Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors degree. He later became a salesman for the Aro Company, as well as the Production Equipment Company selling air tools.  Jim was former scout leader and an avid woodworker. Most of all Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley, and their children: Mark (Kim) Pierce, Kirk Pierce, and Patrick Pierce; three grandchildren: Tyler, Kelsey, and Cole; his brother, Max (Debby) Pierce, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service for Jim Pierce will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Delta Twp. There will be a visitation 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or the American Cancer Society.

Mark, Kirk & Patrick: So sorry to hear about your dad. I’ll never forget him packing us in the back of the Vista Cruiser and taking us to Pony League Baseball games, those were good times! Hope to run into you guy’s soon. My family will pray for you.

My earliest memories of Uncle Jim are his smile and laugh, parts of what I later came to view as his inherent kindness. He set an example that I, as a child, wanted to emulate within my life, yet, he did it so well that I have yet to obtain that which he seemed to do so naturally.

Uncle Jim, you’re a tough act to follow.
